This collection has been entitled ‘Scythe’ and is a tall contemporary women’s wear collection for Fall/Winter 2017. The collection was inspired by the Lord Alfred Tennyson poem “The Lady of Shalott”. The Victorian poem is hauntingly beautiful in its imagery and language, and the collection’s aim is to encapsulate the tension between the known and the unknown present in “The Lady of Shalott”. Tennyson also explores lightness and darkness and I have manifested this theme quite literally in my collection by designing predominately black and white styles and by creating depth through fullness and shadows. The lines of the collection are long and fluid, with trailing ties and nearly dragging hemlines. I hope to capture the beauty of Tennyson’s poetry in the shape of my designs. The purpose of Scythe is to serve as a fashion label for women who cannot ordinarily find fashionable pieces that fit them right off of the rack. Scythe aims to eradicate the compromises tall women must make while shopping for clothing.
