BONNIE YANG

GRAD COLLECTION

ABOUT

Written by Kelly Ann Nguyen - Finding inspiration in Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye in Paris, France, Bonnie Yang decided to create a thesis collection focusing on his design values. “He essentially said that every aspect of the building should be looked at and not forgotten—the inside and the outside,” quotes Bonnie, “every design feature has to be justifiable.” Taking this concept further, Yang created a collection of comprising of light, minimalist colours, and geometric and structured shapes intertwining with one another. Needless to say, Yang’s pieces are for the higher-end market, with fine, long lasting fabrics, such as wool, leather and fur. “I don’t care for new trends or fast fashion—it changes too quickly,” Yang notes. Her personal style is very much a reflection on her thoughts of fast fashion, admitting that she prefers to stick with the basics, and only have a couple statement pieces. Although she has no plans to become a big-name designer, this woman speaks for quality over quantity. With an impressive background in costume design, we hope to one day see her work on the big screen.
